Well-timed arthroplasty and improved pharmacotherapy have improved survival62. Disease modifying antirheumatic drugs, anti-inflammatory drugs, and biologic agents can compromise immunity and wound-healing. Their use in the perioperative period should be weighed against the risk of a rheumatoid arthritis flare-up63.
