Although most of the available literature on periprosthetic fractures after hip and knee arthroplasty has focused on internal fixation techniques, many of these fractures require arthroplasty revision. These cases require familiarity with internal fixation and revision arthroplasty techniques. Typically, revision is indicated for fractures around loose components, nonunions, or fractures for which internal fixation attempts are likely to fail1. This review describes the indications, techniques, and results of revision for periprosthetic fractures of the hip and knee.
